Reinstating SSI Eligibility Without a New Application
SSI benefits payments can end if gross monthly earnings exceeds the monthly SSI threshold. This monthly threshold may vary from year to year. Your Benefits Planner can assist you with the current SSI monthly threshold amount.
SSI eligibility can also be maintain as long as the SSI beneficiary is in Medicaid While Working — Section 1619(b). This Medicaid protection allows for continued Medicaid while SSI has stopped due to excess earnings from work. If work ends or earnings are reduced significantly, SSI payments will automatically begin again.
If the SSI beneficiary has lost both SSI benefits payments and 1619(b) Medicaid status, automatic reinstatement of SSI could only occur if the following applies to the beneficiary:
- Still be disabled; and
- Still meet all other eligibility rules, including the resources test.
