Writing Present Levels and SMART Goals

This 30-minute Lunch + Learn focused on strengthening IEP development practices. This session highlights best practices for writing clear, data-informed Present Levels and crafting SMART goals that are both measurable and meaningful. Participants will gain practical strategies and examples to ensure IEPs effectively reflect student strengths, needs, and growth priorities.

Every Strong IEP Starts with Data

Over the next 30 minutes, we'll look at practical ways to strengthen our IEP writing so every goal connects directly to what students truly need and who they really are. We'll focus on two big ideas. Writing clear datainformed present levels of academic achievement and functional performance and turning those present levels into smart goals that are both measurable and meaningful. You'll see examples, alignment checks, and ways to make sure our IEPs reflect each student's strengths, needs, and personal vision of success.

IEP-At-A-Glance Sheet

Keep your student's IEP needs nearby with a “IEP at a Glance” cheat-sheet that highlights key information—such as goals, accommodations, and supports—to help teachers and staff quickly understand how to best support the student’s needs.
