Renee Lamoreau
As a sister to someone with intellectual disabilities, I grew up with a deep interest in reducing stigma and creating inclusive environments. During my undergraduate at Tufts University, I sought out opportunities to gain skills in working with children with disabilities, including volunteering at an inclusive preschool, interning with IDEA Part C Early Intervention, and providing case management services to families with children with special heath needs. My time as a PhD student in School Psychology at Tulane University has given me the opportunity to provide clinical mental health services to children with disabilities in the greater New Orleans area.
Through the LEND experience, I aim to gain a deeper understanding of advocacy, policy, and disability rights. As a clinician-researcher, this a gap in my training. I believe in the importance of intervening at all levels and infusing a social justice lens into all aspects of my work.
In my future work, I hope to become a licensed psychologist who works with children and adolescents across multiple settings (i.e., home, school, hospitals). I am particularly interested in supporting children and their families who have experienced trauma and other forms of adversity. My strengths in building relationships and advocating for vulnerable populations of families make me well-suited for this work.
