What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?

Before beginning this program, I spent 5 years in education as an elementary/middle school teacher. With the exception of one school, every school at which I taught fell under the Title 1 umbrella. I’ve had plenty of experience working with children who have IEPs or 504 accommodation plans as an educator. I haven’t yet been able to work with them as an SLP, my field of study.

What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?

To gain the knowledge and tools to be an active member of the child’s intervention team and skills to be a strong advocate for their needs.

What do you wish to contribute as a future Related Service Provider &/or Special Education Teacher?

Very simply, I want to help. I have seen firsthand how often children can slip through the cracks because the people on their team do not communicate or hold each other accountable. I hope to one day fill in those gaps so every child can reach their full potential.
