My passion for working with individuals with disabilities has always been present, but was catalyzed by the birth of a family member with a disability. I have witnessed the challenges my family has faced in seeking to receive and understand a diagnosis, and I have gotten an inside perspective into some of the obstacles that must be overcome in order to obtain appropriate services. As an aspiring occupational therapist, I have had and will continue to have many personal experiences with individuals with disabilities.
Through my LEND experience, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of maternal and child health in order to be better equipped to serve as an advocate in both my personal and professional life. I am excited to gain knowledge, build a repertoire of resources for individuals with disabilities, and to expand my skillset into the policy and advocacy realm. My goal is to be as informed as possible in order to be the best advocate that I can be for individuals with disabilities. I’m also very excited to build connections and relationships with other individuals that have similar goals!
I hope to apply the knowledge and skills gained from LEND to not only benefit my future patients and clients during my career as an occupational therapist, but to inform and empower other healthcare professionals, legislatures, family, and friends.
