What are your past/current experiences working in the field of disabilities, allied health, education, or school?
After my first year of college, I became a physical therapy technician at the Baton Rouge Orthopedic clinic where I worked with a wide variety of patient populations for 2.5 years; however, this was mainly orthopedic cases in nature. I also volunteered at Pediatric therapy solutions where I was able to work with children with disabilities, developmental delays, cognitive disorders, etc. During my high school years, I was able to help conduct dance team camps over the summer where I learned how to work and interact with school age children as well.
What are your goals for your Interprofessional Preparation experience?
My goals for the IPP experience are to grow in my knowledge about students with disabilities and how to work with the special education population, to gain insight into a variety of therapy and allied health services provided for those with disabilities, and to have a new perspective on life by trying to step in to the shoes of those who face health disparities daily.
What do you wish to contribute as a future Related Service Provider &/or Special Education Teacher?
As a future related service provider for children and the general public, I wish to contribute my movement expertise as a future Physical therapist in order to provide the best physical outcomes for all patients. Providing patients with the optimal and most efficient way of moving and staying healthy physically will allow them to gain the best quality of life, increase their longevity, and prevent future decline of any current and future health problems.
