HDC Consumer Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC)  is to advise the Human Development Center’s Director, faculty, and staff in a manner that supports the Human Development Center in meeting its responsibilities and mission in  accordance with the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (2000). Every five years, LSUHSC Human Development Center must devise a 5-year plan that guides the activities of the UCEDD. The activities are designed to address the needs of individuals with disabilities in those areas that are listed in the DD Act and some areas of significance that are not specifically listed in the Act. Regularly scheduled meetings of the CAC result in both the development and execution of the 5-year plan. CAC members help evaluate UCEDD activities and suggest courses of action to better accomplish the mission and goals of LSUHSC Human Development Center.

HDC’s CAC is comprised of self-advocates, family members, representatives of People First, the Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) and the Advocacy Center (AC) (i.e., AC is Louisiana’s Protection & Advocacy center), as well as key state agencies including Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS), Louisiana Department of Education (LDE), and Louisiana Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (OCDD). It also includes representatives of community groups concerned with people with developmental disabilities and their family members, e.g., Families Helping Families (FHF). The CAC support the mission and vision of HDC by providing input regarding emerging needs and priorities of individuals with I/DD and families. They help evaluate HDC activities and suggest courses of action to better accomplish the mission and they participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of HDC’s programs and products.
